Dr. Haseena Khan

Biography

Professor Haseena Khan was born in Dhaka on May 1, 1954. She did her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Dhaka University in 1976, Master of Science in Biochemistry in 1977, and Ph.D. in Molecular Biology in 1985 from University of Sussex, UK. From 1985 to 86, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher in France. Then, from March to September 1991, she was a research fellow at the University of Sussex’s Nitrogen Fixation Laboratory.
Dr. Haseena Khan received the Independence Day Award for research and Training in 2019. She received the Bangladesh Academy of Science’s M.O. Ghani Memorial Gold Medal in 2011, the Kazi Mahbubullah Gold Medal in 2015, and the Moni Singh-Farhad Memorial Trust Award in 2016. Professor Haseena was the first Chairperson of the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of the University of Dhaka. She also helped establish the Marine Biotechnology Department of Bangabandhu Maritime University.
She is an editor of a book titled “The Jute Genome” which has recently been published by Springer, Nature. She also holds the UGC professorship from 2021 for her remarkable accomplishments in teaching and research. She has more than 90 publications. She is also a member of the National Technical Committee on Biotechnology (2016 – present). Her skills are still helping Bangladeshi Biotech today.
