Biography

DIG Amena Begum is the Deputy Inspector General (Protection and Protocol) of the Special Branch of Bangladesh Police. She has served as Superintendent of Police in Rangamati and Narsingdi districts. She also served as the Deputy Commissioner (North) of CMP.
In 2015, Amena Begum received Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) the highest medal of police. Later, she received the IG Good Service Medal in recognition of her work. Crossing the borders of the country, she also raised Bangladesh in foreign lands. In 2009, she was elected Asia Region Coordinator of the International Association of Women Police. She performed that duty for two terms till 2015. She coordinated the Asian Women Police Conference which is the annual conference of the International Association of Women Police (IAWP).
In 2012, she was nominated for the Eisenhower Fellowship. She has experience in policing in 17 states, including the state of Philadelphia in the United States, and in police departments and universities in the United States. Apart from this, she has been participating in various police seminars in Europe including Mexico, USA, Germany and South Africa and has been making invaluable contribution as a female police officer in the world. In 2016, she was elected President of Bangladesh Police Women Network for two years. Amena Begum has served in the UN peacekeeping mission in East Timor.
Amena Begum passed SSC from Agrabad Government Colony School in 1984 and HSC from Chittagong College in 1986. She obtained her Bachelor’s in English Literature from Chittagong University in 1991, and Masters in the same subject in 1992. She joined the Bangladesh Police Service as Assistant Superintendent of Police through the 18th BCS in 1999.
